In the Greville's Post Office Directory 1872 – TANGMANGAROO (Route – Rail Goulburn, Cobb’s coach Yass, 12m. Tangmangaroo) there are four Stonhams listed: Alfred, James, Samuel and Thomas. All are listed as Farmers living in Thorsby's Ck. According to notes my mother made during conversations with my great-grandmother, Alfred's property was called 'Fairview' at Tangmangaroo via Bowning. He was known for saying "I come from kent where the hops grow". Did Alfred and Susannah Prior have children out of wedlock (marriage listed as 1882) and did she list her name at her children's birth Susan before getting married and Sussannah after????? In an 1839 Surname Directory index for Kent I found both Stonham and Dengate My mum remembers "Auntie Carey", a horsewoman who rode sidesaddle, and "Aunt Ella".
