Esther was born at Tangmangaroo. The midwife was Mrs Boulding.

More commonly known as Essie in her younger years, she later used Josie, as my mother said she didn't like Essie.

She was the postmistress at Tangmangaroo, and that is how she met Thomas.

Esther and Thomas were married by a Reverend George Peacock Medcalf.

She was the youngest of eleven children, however only nine survived.

Her family was Catholic and it was considered a scandal that she married a prodestant.
