Martha Chamberlain was indicted for steeling various items of clothing about 10:00pm on 23 May 1795 from the room of John Cox at 22 New Compton Street, St Giles, London. Her accomplice, John Jones, was also indicted. Martha Chamberlain was committed to Newgate Goal and tried at the Old Bailey, 1 July 1795, and found guilty of stealing goods to the value of 39 shillings, but not guilty of breaking and entering. She was sentenced to seven years transportation. John Jones was also transported.

She was listed as a single woman aged 21 and her native place as St Giles Parish, Middlesex. She was a convict aboard The Ship Indispensable which sailed from United Kingdom, in 1796 and arrived in Sydney, NSW on 30 April 1796 under Master Wilkinson. Martha Chamberlain and George Best appeared on the census of 1828 at NSW.

She was buried at St John's Church, Parramatta, NSW on 17 Mar 1833, with her husband.
